Angel's Creations

9.28.2010

I started this page of our site becuase Angel was really interested in Midwifery and child birth. She did a lot of research on the subject and we used a midwife for the birth of a few of our kids. Someday I'm sure that she'll get interested in midwifery again. Right now she's swamped. We have six children and she's working on number 7. She is also homeschooling three of our children.

I wanted to use some of this space to show off some of the things Angel has created over the last couple of years. She started sewing stuff for our kids and then selling them on Etsy.com. She got a lot of hits on her Facebook page and started selling things like crazy. It could be a full time job for her becuase her products are of such good quality and good looking. She got so many repeat customers and referrals that she was almost too busy to be a mom. When she became pregnant she shut down her Etsy site becuase even though she doubled her prices people kept requesting items. I'm sure that she'll start selling again in a few years and maybe that will be the start of our home business. Who knows? Right now she only makes things for friends' baby showers.

2003

We had our fist child in the hospital. It wasn’t that great of an experience as far as comfort for my wife and being told what was going on, etc. I guess we could chalk that up to inexperience on our part, but our second birth was entirely different. Our second child was also born in a hospital, but with the help of a nurse-midwife. From my viewpoint, it was such a drastically different experience that it’s hard to compare the two. The staff was nicer, we were more informed on what was going on, and the midwife got there shortly after we did and stayed until after the birth. She didn’t pop in for the last 10 minutes and then leave. I must admit that we prepared ourselves better the second time by researching and reading all pertinent information. My wife was more prepared and relaxed as well, which cut down on delivery time. However, the experience was very different from the beginning. From the first pre-natal visit to the last, we were treated better and given explanations that helped us relax.

My purpose in writing the above is not to bash hospitals and doctors and hold up midwifes as our only ray of birthing hope. Although, my wife did recently write a paper for one of her Family Science classes on a subject similar to that but it’s not negative like my previous sentence is. If I can convince her, you’ll find a link to download part of that paper here.

But enough of me, let’s hear from the 28-year-old-mother-of-four.

I started this page because I knew that Angel felt very strongly about this topic, but she has yet to write anything for it. I don't know what to do to get her to embrace technology and put her message out, but here is a project that she's been working on for the last few weeks.
